In 2004, the Chemistry and Biology departments were awarded a Merck/AAAS research grant for $60,000.  Only 14 other colleges and universities in the nation were awarded this prestigious grant.  The Merck/AAAS undergraduate research program provides financial support for four students interested in doing research in both chemistry and biology. 


Projects

The primary faculty involved in the Merck/AAAS Undergraduate Research Program are Dr. Maha Zewail-Foote (Chemistry), Dr. Emily Niemeyer (Chemistry), Dr. Gulnar Rawji (Chemistry), Dr. Martin Gonzalez (Biology), Dr. Maria Cuevas (Biology), and Dr. Max Taub (Biology).  The projects will provide research opportunities in the areas of medicinal, analytical, and bioinorganic chemistry along with molecular biology, endocrinology and plant physiology. more
