| FRE11-024 FRENCH II |
This course is intended for students who successfully completed French I or who placed into French II. Our main goals are to develop proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and to apply these skills in conversation and in analyzing texts and francophone cultures. French II continues French I but with somewhat more emphasis on reading and writing. The main components of the course include conversation practice in class, workbook exercises, online practice activities, and online quizzes and tests. French II includes a fair share of independent study. Class time emphasizes textbook review and the development of communication skills. On successful completion of this course, you will be able to demonstrate novice to intermediate level written and oral language proficiency as well as basic understanding of French and Francophone cultures. Related skills developed include producing lists, communicating information, writing messages, conveying requests, expressing personal meaning through recombinations of words and learned phrases, and presenting and recognizing facts. At the middle and end of the semester, providing reactions to films and a short book will target cultural and interpretive skills, in order to move you toward declaring a French major or minor and studying abroad in a French-speaking country.
