SOUTHWESTERN'S FRENCH PROGRAM RECEIVES $1,800 GRANT FOR COMMUNITY-WIDE TOURNEES FILM FESTIVAL

Southwestern University's 2009 Tournées Festival will feature five recent films from France. Sponsored by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Ministry of Culture, it is open to all members of the Southwestern and greater Georgetown communities.

The Festival themes will be diversity, desire, the city, and storytelling. The series highlights both the dramas of being young in contemporary Paris and new directions in film.

All showings begin at 7pm and are free and open to the public! The films are in French with English subtitles.

Warning: These films are intended for an adult audience and may include sexual content, violence or strong language.

WHEN: Wednesday 9/09, 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10/07, starting at 7pm

9/09, 7pm-9pm Entre les murs / The Class (Laurent Cantet, 2008). A true story of classroom life and cultural assimilation at a diverse Parisian junior high school. Trailer is here.

9/16, 7pm-9pm Les Chansons d'amour / Love Songs (Christophe Honoré, 2007). An exploration of twentysomethings' emotions and sexuality, in a tuneful musical set in today's Paris. Trailer is here.

9/23, 7pm-9pm Two Days in Paris (Julie Delpy, 2007). A humorous look at relationships and the misunderstandings that mark 'French versus American' debates. Trailer is here.

9/30, 7pm-9pm Roman de gare / Crossed Tracks (Claude Lelouch, 2007). A gripping, complex homage to the twists and turns of French mystery novels. Trailer is here.

10/07, 7pm-9pm Les Plages d'Agnès / The Beaches of Agnès (Agnès Varda, 2008). Agnès Varda's autobiographical look at her filmmaking career, with playful photos, clips and dialogue. Trailer is here.

If you are a Southwestern University student or faculty member unable to attend The Class, Love Songs, Two Days in Paris or Crossed Tracks, you may view them at your leisure by checking them out after their respective screening dates from Smith Library Reserves.

The Tournées Festival is directed by Aaron Prevots, Assistant Professor of French in Southwestern University's Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. It is made possible with the support of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the French Ministry of Culture (CNC).
