Beauty Comes In All Shades

America associates dark with evil and light with good and although this is relevant in religion, it is not in society. People who have dark skin should be valued at the same level as people with light skin. All shades are beautiful and reveal a person's background, culture, and most of all is one thing that makes a person unique. Colorism is not inevitable; making people aware that it exists and fight against it can defeat it. Colorism within the African-American community affects its members by continuously allowing different types of media such as magazines to feed us images and portrayals of what the beauty and success should look like. This form of racism promotes inequality and the United States claims to be a country of equality. With that being said, it is our job to reduce and get rid of colorism by not engaging in it, analyzing it in the media, and fighting for equal opportunity of all people regardless of their skin tone.
