| Like any other designed environment, Pinterest produces certain practices
and subjects. Users, or pinners, "pin" images to a virtual bulletin board
of sorts. There are a limited number of ways that users are allowed to
manipulate the site and it tends to enable visual communication while
generally disabling linguistic communication. Pinterest as an institution
produces several different subjects: the creators of the website, the
creators of the images, and the creators of the pin boards (who are also
viewers of others' boards). Each of these could also be seen as a center
of authority because they have unique abilities and areas of control.
