These two ads both feature males but still are very sexualized toward women. In the Jose Cuervo advertisement the man and the woman are very playful with each other. They are not naked, but the woman has her bare legs wrapped around the man and his face is very close to her chest. The text reads, "Pursue your daydreams." I believe that this is an element of fantasy because Rose describes fantasies as being like daydreams in the way that you are dreaming about something that you want and do not have at the moment. In this instance I believe that the producers of the ad want you to daydream about being in the situation as the man is. They want men to want to be with women like that and the way to do that is to drink Jose Cuervo. I believe the picture is in black and white as to not draw too much attention on the picture but more on the actual bottle itself. If the picture were in color I think that people would simply pay attention to the man and woman, since it takes up most of the page and not on what the ad is for. The advertisement in its entirety focuses on the sexuality of men and women and what kinds of fantasies can come true if you drink Jose Cuervo. | ![]() |
![]() | The advertisement for Skyy Blue may not seem that sexual at first glance, but indeed there are elements which make it very sexualized. On both sides of the ad are two airbrushed perfect female legs and at the top is her buttocks. The entire view of the advertisement is through her legs. On the other side of the pool is a man who is holding the same drink as she is and he looks to be testing the temperature of the water. She is in a bikini with a sheer cover and he is fully clothed. Firstly this represents that the woman in the ad is much more sexualized than the man because she is willing to have only a bikini on. She also has her shoes off which may mean that she is about to get into the pool. He, on the other hand, seems a bit more reserved as he is checking the temperature before he thinks about it. The way that he is holding the bottle upright seems to be phallic in a sense. Rose refers to a phallus as the "notion that the penis is not simply a piece of anatomy but also something meaningful." (Rose; 114) He is pointing the bottle upward toward her body which makes it very sexual. All in all these to advertisements are very sexualized toward women even though they are not naked and there are men present. |
