Conclusions:

As Jose van Dijck claims, “specified as privately recorded personal events and individual collections of recorded cultural content, mediated memories play an important part in the construction of individual and collective identity” (van Dijck 262). This is the value of this scrapbook, in that it gave me a place and a space through which to mediate my own new identity post-study abroad experience and see who I was in relation to the experiences I had, and the moments that I prioritized during the construction of the scrapbook. As such, each of these priorities listed illustrates how I mediated and prioritized these moments and picked and choose what I would remember. The scrapbook does not picture a painful or heart-wrenching depiction of the friendship that ended during the time that I was abroad, nor does it have quotations or excerpts from a particularly bad day in which I happened to also journal. This scrapbook is the most idealized version of my experience that I could possibly present, and was certainly crafted with a lot of attention to detail.
