Catholic Church Involvement
I have volunteered in numerous capacities with
St. Helen's Catholic Church
where I have been a parishoner since 1987.
For instance, I have been involved in youth ministry since the 1990s.
I completed the Ethics and Integrity Training when it was originally offered and was retrained in 2009.
There have been additional training and planning sessions for Catechists and for the Confirmation Catechists.
Recently, (2009-2010), I have been a core team member for high school
(SHY - St. Helen's Youth) and core team member for Confirmation.
Confirmation involved a lot of intensive work for 2009-2010. In addition to monthly 4-hour meetings from Oct to Jan with students, I helped with service projects for the confirmandis:
From 2004 to 2009, I served as a clerical aid, an occasional substitute in 4th or 5th grade classes, a regular aid in 6th and 7th grade, and then had an 8th grade class 2008-09 which met weekly during the academic year.
In the 1990's, I provided turkey, gravy, etc. for the annual Turkey Dinner which was the primary fundraiser for the Religious Education Program. I was an aid for the Youth Ministry, including helping at Martha's Kitchen, a homeless shelter in Temple, serving as driver and chaperone for a middle school retreat, and being a regular aid for the high school ministry, including arranging for weekly pizza.
In addition, I have helped out with the annual Fall Festival, with Welcome Registration Events, and more.
I support the
Southwestern University's Catholic Student Association.
I have provided information, moral support, and transportation to a variety of Catholic students at Southwestern. I resurrected a long dormant web site and served as webmaster for 2006-2008.
I have organized various meetings among the Catholic faculty.
