Hosting the Olympic games is undoubtedly a huge honor and provides an opportunity for both the host city and country to define and imagine themselves in the philosophical framework of the International Olympic Committee. Hosting the Olympics "provides an interesting glimpse of these imaginings, as millions consume them in the most emotive forms, often being moved to tears when seeing someone from their own country do very well (Billings et al 253). London as a host city, as an institutional technology, provides a discursive formation utilizing converging visual texts as well as inspirational and effective advertisement that encourages pride in the culture, understanding of other cultures, and enjoyment of the nobility of sporting competitions.
